“By staying in the moment, you achieve 'at one-ness' with your painting. When you are at one with your painting, you're in that enviable 'gap', where every brushstroke will have validity. Moreover, the images that emerge might surprise you.”

After working in a variety of mediums through the years, my work has evolved into the very satisfying process of creating non-representational collage inspired by the color and texture of the world around me. In some ways you might call me a layerist as I combine elements of collage, papers and found objects, layers of acrylic mediums, fluid acrylics, gold, copper and silver foil or leafing into each piece. The result is a multi-faceted feast of color and beauty.
Living most of my life in Southeast Alaska has definitely influenced my color palette. I find I am drawn to warm tones and high key color. Adding gold and copper foils increases the warmth of my paintings. My inspiration comes from a walk along the beach or in the woods and then sorting through my papers to see what jumps out at me. Intuitive choices are made throughout my painting process. Abstract compositions and the combination of the many layers I use in my work create a depth and mystery that tends to engage the viewer to be part of the process.
Painting occupies my mind constantly. My goals are to never stop exploring and growing as an artist and to share my journey with others.
We have several original artworks available by Candice Christie.
