Nathalie Parenteau was born in Montreal, Quebec and grew up surrounded by art. That culture was strong in her family, and her artistic inclination was cultivated at an early age. She flourished in her twenties when she disciplined herself for self taught artistic development. She is now an established artist, exploring both composition and color to represent the figure in its physical environment.
Understanding at an early age that creation necessitated life experiences, she spent a few years traveling and living in the far corners of the world. After high school she spent nine months volunteering across Canada, followed by a year living close to the land in a remote corner of the Yukon Territory. She afterwards went overseas, traveled through India, explored the landscapes of Kenya and Thailand and then spent several weeks on the island of Madagascar exploring this exotic land. Her travels have also taken her to the busy and intense centers of Honk Kong, Europe, and the United States. In 1993 she earned a bachelor of sciences in biology at the University of Western Ontario. Since then she has devoted her time to her artistic career.
Nathalie’s years in the North have had strong affects on her art. The vastness and solitude of this latitude is evident in many of her paintings. But there is certainly a humorist side to her art as well, which leads her to create whimsical images, sometimes caricaturizing both people and environment which are very popular with the outdoors enthusiasts.
Nathalie lives presently in Whitehorse, Yukon and work as a professional artist and illustrator.
