Augusts Featured Artists: Two Potters & a Painter

For the month of August, Annie Kaill's is pleased to present three guest artists! We will be featuring paintings from Juneau artist Laurel Messerschmidt, as well as pottery by Robin Mikkelsen of Juneau and Phyllis Hackett of Sitka.

Laurel MesserschmidtIntroducing the beautiful artwork of Laurel Messerschmidt! A fifth-generation Juneauite, many locals will know Laurel from her work in the fashion business. She's also a talented artist, and Laurel's original paintings feature flowers and other botanical subjects beautifully painted on canvas. Enjoy a collection of Laurel's original paintings this month.

Robin MikkelsenJuneau pottery artist Robin Mikkelsen's artwork starts out as a lump of clay and is transformed into art using a slab roller, hand tools and stamps, most of which Robin carves herself. Robin makes a variety of pottery pieces including bowls, ornaments, and plates. But one of her specialties is pottery incense burner "houses." We love these cute little incense burner pieces so much that we've asked Robin to create a lot of them - so look forward to a "village" of incense houses as part of her August collection!

Phyllis HackettWe're excited to feature not one but two pottery artists in August! Sitka potter Phyllis Hackett will be making the short trip over to exhibit her latest work. Phyllis is known for her gorgeous hand crafted and hand painted bird houses - these make lovely display pieces and can also be used to house actual birds. We'll have plenty of new bird houses, as well as an assortment of her other work which includes plates, mugs, bowls, and more.

Our opening reception for our "two potters and a painter" exhibition takes place on First Friday, August 2, from 4:30 pm to 8:00 pm. Work from our featured artists will be on display all month long.

What's New this Month

Summer is in full swing, and we are restocking and bringing in new merchandise non-stop! Here's a sampling of the new arrivals this month:

Timber and Tides We have a new selection of hand crafted earrings from Timber and Tides. Locally made from resin and locally sourced wood. With many colors and styles to choose from, these are all one-of-a-kind and also make the perfect "Alaskan" gift!

Our pottery section is fully stocked, making perfect gifts for summer weddings! This month we’ll have a restock of our popular Bill Campbell pottery, with its "northern lights" glaze. Plus Flambeaux pottery with various colorful crystalline glazes. Both are high-fire porcelain and made for using everyday.

Erbaviva By popular demand, we have brought back Erbaviva mom & baby products. These are organic skin care products for baby, pregnancy and all enlightened beauty seekers who demand truly healthy, organic products.
The Thymes We’ve added new scents and products to our Thymes line up - including fresh cut basil and passion fruit neroli. The new scents are almost yin and yang: The basil is a simple, fresh, green scent, while passion fruit neroli is a lush, vibrant burst of transformative energy. Yes please!

linens Finally, we’ve restocked all kinds of cards, socks, linens (like these cute April Cornell tablecloths), plus jewelry and more. If you're looking for a small gift or a special treat for you, we have something for you this month at Annie Kaill's!
