July Featured Artist: Arnie Weimer

Our July featured artist is local artist Arnie Weimer. Most Juneauites know Weimer or his work - he is a longtime Juneau resident, frequently seen sketching or painting in coffee shops or on street corners around town. He has also created several public art displays including a large mural in downtown Juneau.

Arnie WeimerWeimer has exhibited continually for the past forty-five years as an artist in resident, and he has also worked with many Alaska Native artists while employed by the Juneau School District's former Indian Studies program. He also operated a studio gallery for several years where many Alaskan artists gathered to practice their various forms.

In terms of collectable art, we carry several varieties of Arnie Weimer's work. One medium is prints of oil and watercolor paintings, including standard size prints as well as collectable mini-prints. In this department, the July show will feature a new release of Weimer's latest print titled "Alaskan Halibut Tail Tale."

Arnie WeimerAnother medium is embossed relief prints. In this artwork, Weimer carves an image into a block and then permanently presses or "embosses" that image either into art paper or copper plate to create a raised relief print. A wide selection of embossed prints is available, many inspired by Alaska native stories and legends.

Our opening reception for Arnie Weimer's exhibition takes place on First Friday, July 5, from 4:30 pm to 8:00 pm. Work from our featured artist will be on display all month long.
