March Feature: Art from John & Sharon Svenson

SvensonFor our March feature, we've lined up an exhibition from the very popular artists John and Sharon Svenson. The Svensons are well-known Alaskan artists and own a gallery in Haines. Unfortunately, due to issues with the ferry schedule they won't be able to make it to Juneau in person, but their art will, and we're looking forward to featuring it!

John Svenson is a renowned mountaineer and that experience provides inspiration for much of his art. Many of John's paintings feature landscapes such as mountain peaks and scenic vistas. He also paints wildlife such as the orca image shown here from the show. In addition to painting, John also makes wood block prints and glasswork.

SvensonWork by Sharon Svenson may be the star of this show. Sharon's art is glass murals. She creates gorgeous images that are hand crafted from hundreds of pieces of glass. She does a lot of installation work and her art can be seen in numerous schools and public areas around Alaska. In the gallery, we show smaller art pieces, perfect for hanging on the wall, such as the raven mural shown here.

The Svensons art will be featured throughout the month of March. Join us for the opening on First Friday, March 2, from 4:30 to 7:00 pm for the unveiling of the collection and to have the best selection.

New Art: Jon Van Zyle, Barbara Lavallee, Rick Clair

Jon Van ZyleWe have lots of new art in the gallery, including these recent releases by three of our artists.

The Iditarod, Alaska's most famous sporting event, starts March 3. And each year, Jon Van Zyle releases an official print and poster to commemorate the race. This year's print is titled "Maggie's Light" and shows a musher with his dogs on a cold, clear morning. Check out this year's poster as well, along with the full selection of Van Zyle's other prints and mini prints.

Barbara LavalleeLast month saw the release of a charming new print from Barbara Lavallee titled "Baking Love." Five ladies making heart-shaped cookies. We think the world needs more love and more cookies. This print (or any of Barbara's work) is the perfect way to brighten up someone's day.

Rick ClairFinally, we've given a complete update to our catalog of art from Rick Clair. Enjoy an expanded selection of prints in Rick's colorful, modern style. Plus, we have several original paintings in the gallery now, such as "Moon Plum Creation Theory" which is shown here.

See the new work now on our website at www.anniekaills.com.

What's New at Annie's This Month

We're starting to see signs of spring and with it some of our first new arrivals of the year. Including, some new work from a buying show Colleen and Ben attended, as well as new items from several local artists.

Here are a few examples new arrivals around the store:

Headbands The ladies are loving this new line of headbands by Headband Happy AK! Come check out the huge batch we just got in! Handmade designs include statement pieces with puffins, snowflakes, and salmon, as well as some with more reserved patterns.

A center display in the gallery currently features a new line of handmade fair-trade baskets from the Blessing Basket project. You get a beautiful basket and the artists earn a living wage. Also check out our fair-trade blankets and animals.

Mirror See the most beautiful person in these lovely handmade mirrors. Featuring local wood and made right here in Juneau by Aleph Designs. We have several to choose from! Or for a more glitzy mirror, we also have a new assortment of bejeweled mirrors from Zetamari.

Yummy food

We've been making a concerted effort to expand our offerings of unique and gourmet food items lately. After all, a little yummy can make the perfect complement to a gift or treat for you! One of our recent additions are these gourmet dips and aiolis from Terrapin Ridge Farms - simple ingredients, gluten free, full of taste. Try one for yourself or build your own gift basket with a selection!

Pop up card

Lots of new greeting cards have arrived from several different lines, as well as images from various Alaskan artists. Want something unique? We love these pop-up cards from LovePop. It's a beautiful, high quality card, then opens up to reveal some 3-dimensional art!

Fun baby stuff We continue to add to our baby section, because everyone loves to spoil the new baby they know. Check out the new offerings from Milkbarn. Using organic materials, they offer a boxed baby keepsake set, as well as the oh-so-practical infinity nursing scarf. This is something moms will appreciate - no more losing the end of your scarf / blanket while feeding baby!

We hope you can stop by and see all these great finds in person this month... and remember, there's always something new at Annie's! Also, get the latest updates during the month by following us on Facebook and Instagram!
