May Featured Artists: Christie, Hopkins & Lyman

We kick off the summer season with a jam-packed May show with three excellent guest artists. This month, we'll be highlighting art from Candice Christie, jewelry from Jim Hopkins, and fly rods from Jon Lyman. Read on for more details!

Candice ChristieMixed media artist Candice Christie will be presenting a collection of her latest original artwork. Candice's artwork incorporates many elements of modern art and abstract design. We'll have her mixed media collages such as the Nesting series art shown here. In addition, Candice will also be bringing work in two new styles: cold wax and oil, and acrylic pouring.

Jim HopkinsDid you know that mammoths once roamed Alaska? Own a piece of that history with jewelry from Jim Hopkins. Jim creates one-of-a-kind pieces using fossilized ivory from both mammoth and walrus. He expertly crafts each pendant or earrings set to bring out the unique properties of the underlying ivory piece. Many pieces are also jazzed up with accent or featured stones such as turquoise or jade.

Jon LymanFinally, we are very excited to be showcasing the work of Jon Lyman this month. Jon creates hand crafted bamboo fly rods. These are high-end pieces of art, that are also functional to fish with and come with a lifetime guarantee. Each rod is exquisitely hand crafted with painstaking attention to detail and luxury finishes such as silver reel holders, silk windings, agate stripping guides, and exotic hardwood accents.

Work from our three artists will be featured throughout the month of May. Join us for the opening on First Friday, May 4, from 4:30 to 7:00 pm to meet the artists and to have the best selection.

Katie Sevigny Catalog Update

Katie SevignyWe'd like to share some information about a huge catalog update that we just finished. We've greatly expanded our selection of prints from Alaskan artist Katie Sevigny, and dozens of new prints have been added to our catalog.

Katie's art is known for being bright and colorful. Originally, we fell in love with her unique paintings of trees and flowers. Katie also has art depicting wildlife, marine life, birds, mermaids, landscapes, and more. We also love her set of "A Day in AK" prints which are black-and-white drawings of wildlife, trees, and other images intended to represent the breadth of Alaskan life.

Katie SevignyThe two prints shown here are typical of Katie's style: colorful and conveying emotion. "Hummingbird tree" shows an oversized hummingbird against stylized trees; these trees are the focus of many of her prints. "Prowling wolf" is an example of one of her wildlife prints, and might be the perfect Juneau souvenir for this year given all the recent wolf sightings around town.

We carry an ongoing assortment of Katie's prints in the gallery, but you can see the entire catalog at www.anniekaills.com.

What's New at Annie's This Month

Summer is here, weddings are planned, the cruise ships have arrived. We're fully stocked for the season, and as always bringing in new finds to delight even the most seasoned shopper!

Here are a few highlights of recent new arrivals:

Marissa Amor One of our newest artists is Marissa Amor, and we just received a large order of her prints. Sea life is a theme of her work, and many prints are hand embellished.

Sally Paul

Local resident Sally Paul brings us this new collection of cards. These cards feature her black-and-white drawings of regional wildlife and everyday scenes like the ubiquitous Xtra tuff boots. We think locals and visitors alike will love these authentic images of Juneau!

Julie Pigott Artist Julie Pigott stopped by recently to drop off some new ancestor art sculptures. These creations from Whidbey Island start with driftwood and become intricate folk art, painted and embellished to bring out the spirit of the wood.

RBD pottery from Homer has become one of our favorite Alaskan pottery lines. Each piece is hand painted by artist Rachel Bultman in a variety of unique designs - and we have lots of new stock just arrived for summer!

Sami bracelets We're excited to bring back a selection of authentic Sami bracelets from Petersburg artist Augusta Anderson. These bracelets are handmade using traditional Scandinavian methods and materials including caribou leather and woven pewter wire.

WW Knits

Finally, just in case the cold hangs around, check out the new stock of Juneau-made hand knits from WW Knits. We especially love the faux fur pom pom beanies for kids, shown her. Unique and cozy!

We hope you can stop by and see all these great finds in person this month... and remember, there's always something new at Annie's! Also, get the latest updates during the month by following us on Facebook and Instagram!
