Our September 2019 featured artist is Cara Murray! Cara is a contemporary folk artist from Sitka, Alaska.
Cara creates uplifting, brightly colored paintings as well as stylistic block prints.
Born and raised in Southeast Alaska, Cara's style illustrates an extensive graphic design background combined with a love for contemporary folk art and the expansiveness of Alaska. Both maker and mother, she resolves to stay open, clear and connected to a sense of place while remaining fluid in her spiritual experience.
Enjoy an exhibit of Cara's new original art plus an expanded selection of prints for the month of September. Cara's new work features bright colors and bold lines. Many of her paintings depict birds and fish native to our region. Some are straight-forward like the songbird on a tree branch shown here, while many others are more fanciful like the woman with flowers in the show flyer or the depiction of salmon. What each of Cara's paintings has in common is that they convey emotion, and are uplifting and expertly composed.
We'll have two shows featuring Cara Murray's work. The first is an early opening reception on Friday, August 30, from 4:30 pm to 8:00 pm. We'll also be featuring Cara's work during First Friday on September 6, also from 4:30 pm to 8:00 pm. Work from our featured artist will be on display all month long.
