This is a reproduction print of woodcut print titled “Bubble Cradle.

"A family of humpback whales; a baby whale jumping out from the water with joy, mom watching with sighs, and a male (escort) producing bubbles protecting the baby in the bubbles of cradle." - Yumi Kawaguchi.

Most North Pacific humpbacks spending summer in Alaska migrate to Hawaii, some to Mexico, to breed and calve in winter. Many Alaska residents take trips there to escape from the extreme cold in winter, too.

For creating original image, Yumi hand carved four Baltic birch woodblocks, inked each block in blue gradation, pale blue, pale pink. Four layers of colors printed on Japanese paper Kozo made this final image.
